Placement of the Unit
Using the Remote Control Unit
When operating the remote control unit, point it
towards the remote sensor on the front panel of the
unit.
Battery Installation
Choose the installation location of your unit carefully.
Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or close to a source
of heat. Also avoid locations subject to vibrations and
excessive dust, heat, cold or moisture. Keep away
from such sources that hum, such as transformers or
motors.
Do not open the cabinet as this might result in
damage to the circuitry or electrical shock. If a foreign
object should get into the set, contact your dealer.
Be sure not to handle discs with dirty fingers. Never
insert a disc which has a crack on the surface.
When removing the power plug from the wall outlet,
always pull directly on the plug, never yank the cord.
To keep the laser-pickup clean, do not touch it, and do
not forget to close the disc tray.
Do not attempt to clean the unit with chemical
solvents as this might damage the finish. Use a clean,
dry cloth.
Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.

Precautions
Beware of condensation
When the player (or a compact disc) is moved from
a cold to a warm place or used after a sudden
temperature change, there is the danger of
condensation. Water vapor in the air could
condense on the mechanism or the laser pickup. If
droplets of water form on these parts, correct
playback will be impossible because the laser
cannot read the information from the disc correctly.
To prevent this, if you are going to use the player in
a condition where condensation could occur, you
should leave the player for 1 or 2 hours after
plugging it into an AC outlet depending on the
amount of condensation. If this is done, the player
will stabilize at the temperature of its surroundings.
1. Remove the battery compartment cover.
2. Insert two "AA" (R6, SUM-3) dry batteries with correct
positive "" and negative "" polarities.
3. Close the cover until it clicks.
Note:
If the remote control unit is operated near other
appliances which generate infrared rays, or if other
remote control devices using infrared rays are used
near the unit, it may operate incorrectly. Conversely,
the other appliances may operate incorrectly.
Battery Replacement
If the distance required between the remote control unit
and main unit decreases, the batteries are exhausted. In
this case replace the batteries with new ones.
Precautions concerning batteries
Be sure to insert the batteries with correct positive
"" and negative "" polarities.
Use batteries of the same type. Never use different
types of batteries together.
Rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries can be
used. Refer to the precautions on their labels.
When the remote control unit is not to be used for a
long time (more than a month), remove the batteries
from the remote control unit to prevent them from
leaking. If they leak, wipe away the liquid inside the
battery compartment and replace the batteries with
new ones.
Do not heat or disassemble batteries and never
dispose of old batteries by throwing them in a fire.

Types of Playable Discs
Handling the Discs
This unit has been designed specifically for reproduction
of compact discs bearing the"
" "
" "D" marks.
No other discs can be reproduced.
Always place the compact disc in the disc tray with
the label facing upward. (Compact discs can be
played only on one side.)
To remove a disc from its storage case, press down
on the center of the case and lift the disc out, holding
it carefully by the edges.
How to remove the disc
How to hold the disc
Fingermarks and dust should be carefully wiped off
the disc's recorded surface with a soft cloth.
Wipe radially
Never use such chemicals as record sprays, antistatic
sprays or fluid, benzine or thinner to clean compact
discs. Such chemicals will do irreparable damage to
the disc's plastic surface.
Discs should be returned to their cases after use to
avoid serious scratches that could cause the laser
pickup to "skip."
Do not expose discs to direct sunlight or high
humidity and temperature for extended periods.
Long exposure to high temperatures can warp the
disc.
Do not stick paper or write anything with a ballpoint
pen on the surface of the label side.
This unit can play the following 2 types of discs without
using an adapter.
The marks
, D are printed on the labels
and jackets of the corresponding discs.

Discs other than those noted above cannot be played
back with this player. i.e., CDV (CD VIDEO), CD-ROM,
CD GRAPHICS, etc.
VIDEO CD
The VIDEO CD offers animated image playback with an
equivalent audio quality to MD and similar video quality
to VHS.
It features a digital signal compression technology
(MPEG) which allows continuous playback of digital
video and audio for up to 74 minutes.
Some VIDEO CDs are compatible with the Play Back
Control (PBC) feature which makes it possible to select
the desired scene or play a still image with menu
operation.
Playback control (PBC)
The PBC signal is recorded on VIDEO CDs (version 2.0)
for use in controlling the playback operation.
The VIDEO CD with PBC compatibility includes the
recording of menu screens, which allow to play video
software using simplified interactive system or retrieval
function.
The PBC also allows to display two kinds of still images,
high-definition images and standard images.
High-definition still image
When a VIDEO CD including the recording of high-
definition still images is played, still images can be
enjoyed with a four times higher resolution than
moving images.

Power Cord
System Connections
The television speakers can also be used by
connecting the television audio input jacks and the
player AUDIO OUT jacks. However, connection to a
stereo amplifier is recommended to obtain superior
audio playback quality for Compact Discs.
Do not plug the power cord of any component into
AC outlets and do not turn their POWER switches on
until all connections have been performed.
 5
Connections
Connection with a TV and stereo amplifier
Connect the VIDEO OUT jack of the player to the
video input jack of the monitor television.
Connect the AUDIO OUT jacks to the CD or AUX jacks
of the stereo amplifier, making sure to match the
color-coded plugs (provided) with the appropriate
jacks on each component -- the yellow plug for the
VIDEO signal, and the white (L) and red (R) plugs for
the AUDIO signals.
Connecting to a TV and stereo amplifier
Be sure to connect the power cord to an AC outlet
which supplies the correct voltage.
Hold the power plug when plugging or unplugging
the power cord.
Connecting to a TV
Switch the video output signal format from the
VIDEO CD to NTSC or PAL in the Stop mode.

Notes:
Do not place anything heavy on this unit, such as a
