using the player.

Precautions
On heat build-up
Heat may build up in the player if it is used
for an extended period of time. In this case,
leave the player to cool down.
On installation
Never use the player where it will be
subjected to extremes of light, temperature,
moisture or vibration.
On the headphones
Road safety
Do not use headphones while driving,
cycling, or operating any motorized vehicle. It
may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in
many areas. It can also be potentially
dangerous to play your player at high volume
while walking, especially at pedestrian
crossings. You should exercise extreme
caution or discontinue use in potentially
hazardous situations.
Preventing hearing damage
Avoid using headphones at high volume.
Hearing experts advise against continuous,
loud and extended play. If you experience a
ringing in your ears, reduce the volume or
discontinue use.
Caring for others
Keep the volume at a moderate level. This
will allow you to hear outside sounds and to
be considerate of the people around you.
On cleaning
· Clean the player casing with a soft cloth
slightly moistened with water or a mild
detergent solution. Do not use any type of
abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent
such as alcohol or benzene as it may mar
the finish of the casing.
· Wipe the disc cartridge with a dry cloth to
remove dirt.
· Dust on the lens may prevent the unit from
operating properly. Be sure to close the
disc compartment lid after inserting or
ejecting an MD.
On dry battery
Incorrect battery usage may lead to leakage of
battery fluid or bursting battery. To prevent
such accidents, observe the following
precautions:
· Install the battery with the + and poles
aligned correctly.
· When the player is not to be used for a long
time, be sure to remove the battery.
· If a battery leak should develop, carefully
and thoroughly wipe away battery fluid
from the battery compartment before
inserting new ones.
· Do not carry the dry battery in your pocket
or a bag, etc., with metallic objects such as
key rings. The terminals of the battery may
heat up from a short-circuit and can be
dangerous.
On the lid of the battery
compartment
The lid of the battery compartment is
designed to detach from the main unit when
handeled with great force. To reattach the lid
to the main unit, follow the steps below:

Place the lid so that the projections on the
lid aligned with the slits on the main unit.

player causes the player lid to open and the

Keep the main unit in your pocket and
operate the MiniDisc player through the
"slim stick" remote control. The LCD
displays disc and track information,

On the MiniDisc cartridge
· Do not touch the internal disc directly.
Forcing the shutter open may damage the
internal disc.

On mechanical noise
The player gives out mechanical noise while
operating, which is caused by the power-
saving system of the player. This is not a
malfunction.

Troubleshooting
Should any problem persist after you have
made these checks, consult your nearest Sony
dealer.
The player does not work or works
poorly.
·You tried to play with no disc in the
player ("NO DISC" flashes on the
remote control).
b Insert an MD.
·The hold function is activated and the
controls are locked. (If you press any of
the operation buttons on the player,
"HOLD" flashes on the remote control.)
b Slide HOLD against the direction of
the arrow to release the hold
function.
·Moisture has condensed inside the
player.
b Take the MD out and leave the
player's lid open for several hours
until the moisture evaporates.
·The dry battery is weak ("LOW BATT"
flashes on the remote control).
b Replace the dry battery.
·The dry battery has been installed
incorrectly.
b Install the battery with correct
polarity.
·An MD with no recording on it is
inserted ("BLANKDISC" flashes on the
remote control).
b Insert a recorded MD.
·The player cannot read the disc (it's
scratched or dirty) ("DISC ERR" flashes
on the remote control).
b Reinsert or replace the disc.
·While operating, the player received a
mechanical shock, too much static,
abnormal power voltage caused by
lightning etc.
b Restart as follows.
1 Remove the battery from the
battery compartment.
2 Leave the player for about
30 seconds.

The MD is not played normally.
·The player is set to the repeat mode
(" " is displayed on the remote

b Press PLAYMODE repeatedly until
" " disappears, then start playing.
An MD is not played from the first track.
·Disc playing stopped before it came to

reinsert the MD once to go back to
the beginning of the disc, and restart
playing after checking the track

The DIGITAL MEGABASS does not
function.
·The DIGITAL MEGABASS switch is set

Playback sound skips.
·The player is placed where it receives
continuous vibration.

Precauciones
Calentamiento interno
Es posible que se produzca un calentamiento
interno del tocadiscos si se utiliza durante
mucho tiempo. En este caso, deje que se
enfríe.
Instalación
No utilice nunca el tocadiscos en un lugar
donde esté expuesto a la luz excesiva, altas
temperaturas, humedad ni vibraciones.
Auriculares
Seguridad en carretera
No utilice los auriculares mientras conduce,
monta en bicicleta o maneja cualquier
vehículo motorizado, ya que supone un
peligro en la carretera y es ilegal en algunas
zonas. Asimismo, puede ser potencialmente
peligroso escuchar el tocadiscos con el
volumen alto mientras camina, especialmente
en los cruces de peatones. Tenga extrema
precaución o deje de utilizarlo en situaciones
potencialmente peligrosas.
Prevención de daños a los oídos
Evite utilizar los auriculares con el volumen
alto. Los expertos en audición desaconsejan el
uso continuo y con el volumen alto. Si oye
pitidos en los oídos, reduzca el volumen o
deje de utilizar la unidad.
Respeto por los demás
Mantenga el volumen a un nivel moderado.
Esto le permitirá escuchar los sonidos del
exterior y ser considerado con aquellos que se
encuentren a su alrededor.
Limpieza
· Limpie el tocadiscos con un paño suave
ligeramente humedecido con agua o con
una solución detergente poco concentrada.
No utilice estropajos abrasivos, detergentes
concentrados ni disolventes como alcohol o
bencina, ya que pueden dañar el acabado
de la unidad.
· Limpie el cartucho de disco con un paño
seco para eliminar la suciedad.
· Si se ha concentrado polvo en la lente, es
posible que se produzca un funcionamiento
defectuoso de la unidad. Asegúrese de
cerrar la tapa del compartimiento de discos
después de insertar o expulsar un MD.
Pila común
Es posible que el uso incorrecto de la pila
produzca fugas o explosión de la misma. Para
evitarlo, tome las siguientes precauciones:
· Instale la pila con los polos + y alineados
correctamente.
· Si no va a utilizar el tocadiscos durante
mucho tiempo, asegúrese de extraer la pila.
· Si se producen fugas, limpie a fondo y
cuidadosamente el compartimiento de pila
para eliminar el líquido derramado antes
de insertar otra nueva.
· No transporte la pila común en el bolsillo o
en un bolso, etc., con objetos metálicos
como llaveros. Los terminales de la pila
pueden calentarse debido a un
cortocircuito y puede ser peligroso.
Tapa del compartimiento de pila
La tapa del compartimiento de pila
suministrada con este tocadiscos se sale
cuando se maneje con fuerza excesiva. Para
volver a fijar la tapa al tocadiscos, realice los
siguientes pasos:

salientes de ésta queden alineadas con las
ranuras del tocadiscos.

Encaje las partes salientes una por una en la
ranura como se muestra en la ilustración.
Cartucho del MiniDisc
· No toque directamente el disco en el
interior. Si se fuerza el obturador para que
se abra, puede dañarse el disco en el
interior.
· No coloque el cartucho donde esté

características y funciones que descubrirá en
el nuevo tocadiscos MiniDisc.
· Tamaño reducido, casi como el estuche
de un minidisco
Peso y tamaño idóneos, para introducirlo
en el bolsillo de la camisa.
· Una simple función de "Expulsión de un
emergible" para fácil manipulación del
minidisco.
Una simple pulsación del interruptor en
uno de los lados del tocadiscos hace que se
abra el minidisco y se pueda expulsar.
· La memoria resistente a los impactos
compensa hasta 40 segundos de errores
de lectura ópticos.
· Auriculares con mando a distancia de
fácil empleo con pantalla LCD
Guarde la unidad principal en un bolsillo y
emplee el tocadiscos de MD mediante el
mando a distancia de "mínima anchura".
La pantalla LCD muestra información
sobre los discos y los temas, así como sobre
el modo de reproducción y el estado de las
pilas.
· El diseño de bajo consumo de energía
prolonga la duración de las pilas.
· El tocadiscos funcion con una sola pila
LR6 (de tomaño AA).
¡Reproducción
inmediata de un MD!
Se seleccionará automáticamente la reproducción estereofónica o
monoaural en función de la fuente de sonido.
Inserte la pila.
Utilice una pila LR6 (de tamaño AA) (no suministrada) para alimentar el tocadiscos.
Para una reproducción más larga, se recomienda utilizar una pila alcalina.
Cuándo sustituir la pila
Es posible comprobar la capacidad de la pila con la indicación de pila que aparece en el visor
mientras se utiliza el tocadiscos.
